Contribute to Aurora Detection

This is still a work in progress, I will push the camera framework up to github once confident that it is correctly functioning.

Anyone can host a camera to help us detect Aurora as long as they are located in the UK and have access to dark skies.

You will need to be fairly technical to build the camera setup and have access to tools such as a drill as well as having the ability to mount the camera somewhere with a clear view of the North sky.

Parts list:

You will need to fabricate an enclosure for the Raspberry Pi ensuring waterproofing if mounting outdoors.

Alternatively you can contact me at [email protected] and I can provide a prebuilt camera for around £140 depending on your requirements.

The camera will need to be connected to WIFI or Ethernet and you will need a stable internet connection.

Once you have built the hardware you will need to configure the software - devices purchased from us come with the software preinstalled although if you are building your own you can find the software and installation instructions here: GitHub Repository

Once you have built your camera email us at [email protected] for your API key.
